The Leigh Courtyard

The Leigh Courtyard

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Not every garden needs large lawns and complex planting schemes to make an impact. Sometimes, simplicity—when executed correctly—creates the most striking results.

For this project, the client’s vision was to create the ultimate low-maintenance outdoor space: a garden that could be enjoyed year-round without the ongoing upkeep of traditional planting and lawn areas. It was one of the most unique projects we’ve undertaken and required careful planning to ensure the finished garden was both practical and visually balanced.

THE CHALLENGE

The existing garden suffered from extensive weed infestation, making long-term performance one of the project’s biggest challenges. Fully paving the garden also required careful planning to prevent the finished space from feeling overly uniform or visually unbalanced.

Hidden Beneath the Surface

Long-term performance was a priority, so the groundwork had to be completed to the highest standard. The entire area was thoroughly prepared using a geotextile membrane beneath a fully compacted sub-base.

This created a strong and stable foundation for the new porcelain paving while significantly reducing the risk of weed growth through the finished surface. Beneath the elegant appearance of the courtyard lies meticulous preparation designed to keep the garden practical and dependable for many years.

Precision Beneath Every Detail

Covering an entire garden with porcelain paving is not an approach that suits every property, so the proportions and layout had to be carefully considered before construction began.

By introducing two complementary paving formats, we were able to define different areas, add visual interest and avoid the overly uniform appearance that can sometimes occur in fully paved gardens. The contrasting formats bring rhythm and balance to the courtyard while preserving its clean, contemporary character.

Weed Clearance

Compacted Sub-Base

The long-standing weed infestation was thoroughly removed before construction began.

A geotextile membrane was installed beneath the prepared foundations to help prevent future regrowth.

The entire courtyard was constructed on a fully compacted sub-base for reliable long-term stability.

Porcelain paving, decorative stone and a central feature tree created a clean garden requiring minimal upkeep.

The Leigh Courtyard

The completed Leigh Courtyard is a contemporary outdoor space that proves low maintenance does not have to mean compromising on style. Clean lines, contrasting paving formats and generous open space create a garden that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.

Designed for homeowners who want to spend more time enjoying their garden than maintaining it, the courtyard delivers exactly that. Beneath the elegant finish lies meticulous preparation and precision construction, ensuring the paving will remain as practical as it is beautiful for many years to come.

The Leigh Courtyard remains one of our most memorable projects—not because it followed convention, but because it challenged it and delivered a result that exceeded expectations.
